Pea Pod Playschool
Looking to spend some quality time with your child?
Want to build community and foster relationships for your family?
Do you have a flexible schedule and need a little time to yourself?
Committed to staying home with your child but need some adult brain stimulation?
Pea Pod Playschool, a family cooperative childcare program, is an opportunity for parents to spend quality time with their kids, while forming meaningful relationships with others outside their immediate family. Parents are required to work a shift along side other parents, which allows them to form community and learn from each other. The program also provides parents some much needed time away from their children when they drop them off on the days that they are not working shift.
We have a Parent Coach working shift along side the parents. The Parent Coach provides a consistent face in the playroom, acts as lead Parent-on-Duty, keeps the group to the schedule, engages parents and children, models conflict resolution and parenting skills, delegates responsibilities to the group, attends monthly meetings, and leads Orientation when new families join the program. Having a parent coach present is an indispensable parenting resource to those who will be working shift, by providing these parents with a hands-on learning experience to daily challenges.
The program is for children ages 18 months to 3.5 years, or whenever they graduate into preschool. Each day follows a set schedule, which includes an art activity, circle time, a healthy snack, outdoor play, lunch-time and unstructured play. The program is play-based and focuses on socialization skills and building emotional intelligence, such as empathy. Pea Pod provides new families with educational support including an orientation, training sessions, and access to on-going parenting workshops and resources within the field of child development.
